I probably just tried this one from the library, no idea of what any singles were or not, and found it pleasant-enough sounding. It did still have somewhat of an edge on songs like “Bathwater” and “Staring Problem” without being actively annoying. This album was less uneven than “Tragic Kingdom”, lacking both the high of “Don’t Speak” and the unmitigated low of “Excuse Me Mr.”, but “Simple Kind of Life” won me over enough to get my own copy.Songs Heard: Ex-Girlfriend, Simple Kind of Life. ![]() (I seem to recall that when I bought it, it also came with the “Aberrations” rarity collection thrown in as a bonus disk…though I already had a copy, so I think I gave my extra to someone else.) The standout track is “Unsong”, in which Barry Andrews growls out a number of “Un'” phrases (with the occasional “Im-” thrown in for good measure), which is fun to listen to but does not actually commit greatness. It has four or five provocatively-named tracks that turned out to be instrumentals, and quite frankly looking at a list of titles I can’t even say which ones are which. And it was okay, I guess, but never became a huge favourite.
